Paul’s Biography
I’m now onto Round 3 of my rambling career, from Finance Director to Corporate Fixer, then on to writing
This is how I ended up here
Someone pressed fast-forward on life and all of a sudden I’m galloping through my 50’s, with two grown up children. I’ve seen a lot and learned a lot, the main repeat lesson being … I still have a lot to learn! This is typical of life, keeps you grounded and, in my case, still desperate to learn and do more. My friends say I’m just nosey, but I prefer to think that I’m simply curious about people and the world.
Work life so far has been fascinating and challenging, for different reasons. I started out as an accountant working for some of the UK’s largest companies which were fascinating to work in, but challenging because I was never very compliant or predisposed to follow someone else’s rules. Not an ideal profile for an accountant.
Then I moved into line management, strategy and change, again for larger businesses, and that suited me much better. I like change, fixing things, and being stupidly busy. People are fascinating, and convincing the right people that change is a good idea when they are scared that they’ll come off worse, fail in their job, look stupid, and essentially it’ll be a very bad idea for them personally is, well, also very challenging.
Now I write.
I’ve always written, but three years of creative writing course showed me that I could (and should) be a lot better. So, now I’m improving, and Ravioli and Revolvers is my first a novel, with more on the way. Writing for me is fun, an escape into an imaginary world of my own creation, and a very good coping mechanism for the stress and challenges of the rest of life. I would recommend it to anyone.
